Send Your Life Soaring to New Heights
Airplanes: A real life inspiration
Have you ever been on a plane and wondered how it all works? This fascinating piece of machinery works because of many elements– internally and externally.
And before you think “what is a pique-performance coach doing talking about airplanes?” know that this will have a direct connection to your life. Continue reading to find out how to keep flying high in life!
Knowing The Basics
There are four acting forces that affect an airplane: lift, thrust, weight and drag. Maintaining the balance of these things is vital for a safe and successful flight. If one of these elements goes out of line, flyers can experience turbulence, emergency landings, or even an unexpected crash.
NOW, how does this relate to you?
Well in the case of this blog post, you are the plane. Or you can be the pilot– whichever is more fun for you. Either way, you control how your “flight” of life goes.
Going back to those four elements of flight, you too experience those things in your everyday life. Let’s dig a little deeper.
Lift: Your inspiration to stay at the top!
Lift is exactly what it sounds like. It is the force that keeps the plane in the air. In life, you create lift through the things that spark joy. What are the things that make your life happy? It might mean rocking out to your favorite song, eating a delicious meal, or spending time with your favorite people. Whatever your inspiration for joy is, make note of these things as a reminder to do them often and stay lifted.
Thrust: Your driving force to move forward
Just as lift takes you higher, thrust moves you forward. Your goals and desires work the same way in life. When you have something you want to work towards, you will do everything in your power to make it happen. If you feel like you don’t have anything to look forward to at the moment, decide now to set at least one goal to work toward and let it be your motivation to strive and thrive. Remember, keep your efforts balanced in order to avoid burnout.
Weight: Your motivation to stay in control.
Weight is essentially gravity– the force that pulls you down to the surface. Now, gravity isn’t a bad thing! If we didn’t have it, we would float away and cease to have any sense of control. In life, weight is everything you carry with you as well as everything you need to bring along on your “flight” that you wouldn’t want to forget at home. These things might include key people, financial responsibilities, and any other commitments that you maintain in your life. Just as lift counteracts weight on a plane, taking time for the things that bring you joy balances the important responsibilities of life.
Drag: Your setbacks you need to overcome.
Drag is what slows down the plane through friction and air pressure. With emphasis on the “slow down,” life’s drag is anything holding you back. It could be something that is comfortable for you but deep down you know it isn’t serving you, such as an unhealthy habit. Be it physical, mental, emotional or even virtual, drag is a tough thing to fight against. But you possess the ability to even overcome that! You can reduce drag by maximizing lift and thrust to maintain balance. Find what works for you so that you can get where you need to go.
Board Your Flight into an Amazing Life
As difficult as it is to make it through the airport before a trip, there is always a sense of relief once you get on the plane to begin your trip. Because you are in full control of your flight of life, learning and maintaining the balance of those four elements is essential to ensuring a successful journey.
