Break Down Barriers by Visualizing the Possibilities
What circumstance are you in right now?
What exactly is happening to your life?
Are you truly happy with the current state that you’re in?
Let’s go further…We all understand the importance of setting goals.
Some of us are really good at hitting targets that we’ve set months, even years prior. Some of us wait to act on these goals until the very. last. minute.Lost minutes of the day pile on top of each other like dirty dishes in the sink.Sometimes, these unproductive moments that cloud our lives may be created by our subconscious. They become jam-packed with hours of mindless scrolling feeds from YouTube and Instagram and justified by the notion that it’s only a “quick break from work and reality.
”They are filled with thoughts of “tomorrow will be the day it begins.”…. When in fact, it never really does.Do you purposely avoid what you should be doing just to sulk in the release of dopamine from the latest TikTok in your hand?
Most people get sucked into a rabbit hole from all the inaction, and then ask a year later why they haven’t hit the goals that were never even written in the first place.
Does it have to be like this?
It Doesn’t Have To Be Like This.
Being proactive means designing your future, and not just letting life happen to you. But it must start with visualization. What we focus on expands.
This goes for both positive and negative sides of the spectrum. If someone tells you “don’t look down” while climbing a ladder, your brain will instantly become hyper-aware of all the reasons why you shouldn’t look down, leading you to do it anyway.
Because the brain only understands what it’s focusing on. What once was something that you tried to stuff into the back of your mind, soon becomes the mega-thought in the forefront of your mind, because you’re actively trying to avoid it.Let’s look at the positive side. Say you want to start eating healthier. The moment you become aware of what you’re eating, you start focusing on the actions you’re taking to keep the trend going. The more you think about it, the more you revolve yourself around it.As Brene Brown eloquently stated, “We create by design or by default."Life is happening, and you are constantly creating. It’s just a matter of where you want to end up.
What we focus on, expands.
You have probably thought of proactivity as taking an aware, intentional, physical action to project yourself forward.
Did you know, that the current moment and circumstance of what you're experiencing right now is a result of being proactive? It’s a result of everything you consciously did. Even deeper – it’s also a result of your unconscious beliefs.
Let’s put this into real life.
You wake up at 3:30 am and you immediately check your phone. The first thing you see is a story from the latest news. It focuses on destruction and how much crime has risen in the city. You put your phone down and head to the fridge. You remember the conversation your friend had with you regarding his business failing.
So far, we’re two for two in the negative.Your mind begins to wander, and you have not really set anything positive in motion. You end up going back to bed, irritated, full of food and tired. You were supposed to go to the gym. You even thought of it the night before. But that doesn’t happen either.
The rest of your day now… “just is.”
This mundane flow of life continues for the next 12 months, the same way it did for the past 12 years.
Nothing has changed.
Now, you might not have been aware or conscious of these pro-actions. But they were set in motion in the past and have produced the current reality.
These things include thoughts, feelings, mental framework, conscious and unconscious beliefs, etc.All of it was “proactive”.
Created by Default or Design?
How much of what you're experiencing right now was crafted by design? How much was by default?Visualization is creating by design.Think before you speak. Think before you act. Think before you live.Remember, what we focus on expands. The reason why visualization works is due in part to establishing the conscious. Remember, we either create by default or create by design. We either allow life to happen, or we take control and paint our future. It takes work. It takes practice and meditation. It needs to be supported and maintained. It’s not something that comes easy.We have the ability to design what we want, but it has to start with the mindset. It has to start with our thoughts.Find out more on the science behind why visualization works here. How it moves from cause and effect – into causing the effect.Let’s put this again into real life. But this time, let’s give it a positive spin. You wake up at 3:30 am and you immediately check your phone.Just kidding.
You don’t.
You don’t check your phone.
You don’t head to the fridge.
You don’t think about your friend’s failed business.
This time, you head to your notepad.
You review all the goals that were written the night before.Notifications from your social media account begin to blow up, but you make a conscious effort to ignore them.
You go back to focusing on your notepad and the goals you had written down from the day prior.
You visualize what you wrote down coming to fruition. You visualize your day, as you had written it. Visualizing all the goals previously written down becoming reality.
Visualization Empowers the Mind
Visualization takes things to the next level. Think of it as manifestation on steroids. It’s about rewiring your neural pathways to see new possibilities. This is known as neuroplasticity, or the ability to restructure how your brain can modify and adapt throughout your life.If you want to see a change, you must learn to bend your reality to meet your own standards.
If you have fears about taking the next step, you first need to know what that step looks like. It’s one thing to agonize over the negative outcomes and the "what if's." It's another thing to visualize the good things that can come from moving forward.Transform fear of the unknown into excitement for the possibilities.
By visualizing outcomes, you can prepare and motivate yourself to act.
When you view your fears and adversities with objectivity, you will be able to tackle these things with analyzed facts instead of hasty feelings. There’s little question that positive visualizations can help you break down barriers in your mind. These barriers could be something that no longer serves you, such as a habit, memory or even the dreaded excuse.Wouldn’t it be great if those things could just magically go away?
Well, the “magic” here comes in the vehicle of visualization.
With visualization techniques, you can move away from validating barriers and move toward imagining success.
The first step to realizing your goals is to think, act, and speak as if they are already in place.
Whenever someone tells you that something can’t be done (even if that person is yourself), envision how it could actually be done—instead of dwelling on all of its potential flaws.See yourself in your mind’s eye. What does success look like to you? What do you think you would feel like when you get there? Is there anything you would want to hear when you meet your goal?Take time out of your day to envision these things. The more specific the better! As you consistently familiarize and visualize yourself with success, the more attainable it becomes.
The gap between where you are and where you want to be lessens. What you want to see will become your reality.
Quantum physics baby. It’s more than just using your imagination, it's preparing your mind for the future.
Think Possibilities, Not Limitations
Just because someone’s never done something doesn’t mean it’s impossible.
Once you break down barriers in your mind, everything becomes possible. Every obstacle appears like a challenge waiting to be conquered instead of an excuse not to try.
When you think of a way you could accomplish it, add just one more potential step. Before you know it, you’ve created a roadmap for completing a once outrageous, off-the-wall, “unaccomplishable” goal. There are innumerable possibilities surrounding you every day. The one that becomes your reality is the one YOU decide is yours.
Proactively design your path for success, visualize the steps that need to take place, and then go do it!
